Rep. Rashida Talib visited Hope of Detroit during the month March for Reading Month.

She came in to read to the second graders about the history of the Michigan tree. The students were very happy to hear the story. Mrs. Talib answered questions after she was finished.

Rep. Talib has read to the students for two years in a row. Hope of Detroit Academy supports Reading Month and appreciates anyone that volunteers their time to read and give back to our students.

Last Thursday and Friday afternoon was our first student Art show outside of Hope.  Talented artists from grades K through 8 were selected to participate in the show.  Student art work was hung at the Funhouse
Gallery, located inside the Russell Industrial Center here in Detroit.  Students came out to enjoy viewing their artwork in a professional setting.  I conducted a gallery walk, where students voted on their favorite art piece.  The votes were counted and the winner was 8th grader, Chardae Woodfork.  The talented
student received the gift of a canvas with paints to continue her amazing work.

On Friday students were also given a tour of a working artist's studio inside the building.  Students enjoyed Art, music, and snacks while we were at the show.  The artists had a great time seeing all of their hard work hung up at the gallery, the show was a success!
