Benny Cruz received a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Wayne State University in 1983. He has won many music awards over the years. He has toured the Midwest, Mexico and Canada with his band Benny Cruz Y La Buena Vida. He has been in education since 1994 beginning his career as a music educator at Holy Redeemer Elementary and High School. He was certified in the fall of 1997 after pursuing a post bachelors education from Wayne State University. He joined the Cesar Chavez Elementary and Middle School staff from August 1998 until June of 2004. In 2001, he began his pursuit of his Master's in the Art of Teaching at Marygrove College and was professionally certified in the summer of 2002. He began his administration studies in the fall of 2003 and completed his Education Specialist coursework at Wayne State University in the spring of 2005. Benny served as the assistant school leader of Hope of Detroit Academy from 2004-2006. Benny is currently completing his doctorate in bilingual education from Wayne State University.
