                                                                                                                Oscar is a target the students learn to throw at.  He is a made up character from my late Grandpa Eastman who passed it down to my father, Jim Eastman (retired physical education teacher), who passed it down to me.

                                                                                                                Each May, millions of school children all over the globe will exercise simultaneously in a symbolic gesture of fitness and unity. This non-competitive program has proven to be educational, motivational and fun. Starting its 23rd year worldwide, ACES has reached millions of children, parents, and teachers including participants from more than 50 countries.

                                                                                                                Limit your intake of sweets and refined carbohydrates

                                                                                                                Foods that are high in sugar and refined carbohydrates (which includes many low-fat foods!) can create sharp spikes in blood sugar and ultimately increase your risk of both heart disease and diabetes. Choose whole grain foods whenever possible and consume sweets occasionally or not at all.  For a naturally sweet treat, enjoy fresh fruit.

                                                                                                                Why children should eat breakfast?

                                                                                                                The American Dietetic Association states that children who eat breakfast have better concentration, problem solving skills and hand-eye coordination.  As a result they are more alert, creative and less likely to miss school

                                                                                                                Kids Love Hot Cheetos But Schools Hate Them

                                                                                                                Hot Cheetos are a big winner for the Frito-Lay company. The extremely spicy, crunchy and somewhat addictive snack is hugely popular with schoolkids. But school officials are threatening to ban the junk food because they worry that kids are gorging themselves (from National Public Radio website).

                                                                                                                Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.

                                                                                                                1.      Tee Shirt with Hope of Detroit Academy School name and emblem

                                                                                                                 3.      Blue jeans. No torn, patched, or writing on pants permitted.   Shorts may be worn during warm weather at the discretion of the Principal, Mr. Abdel.

                                                                                                                PARENT INVOLVEMENT

                                                                                                                Whether your child is just starting kindergarten, entering the
                                                                                                                final year of
                                                                                                                middle school, or is somewhere in between, there are many good
                                                                                                                reasons and
                                                                                                                opportunities for you to volunteer at school. It's a great way to
                                                                                                                show your child that you
                                                                                                                take an interest in his or her education, and it
                                                                                                                sends a positive  message that you consider school a worthwhile place. 

                                                                                                                Parents if you are interested in volunteering in your
                                                                                                                child's physical education class, please fill out a Volunteer Form located in the main office.
