Stephanie Palmer, special education teacher

Picture
Hi, I am Stephanie Palmer and I am excited to be a Special Educator here at Hope of Detroit Academy. I have 8 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer at Ford Motor Company, 10 years of experience in Real Estate and Pharmaceutical Sales and 17 years as a math tutor. My first love is teaching and I am truly excited to work with children every day. I am a product of public and private education and completed my undergraduate degree at Michigan Technological University and my master’s degree at Grand Canyon University. I have won several awards for academic achievement and service commitment. I am heavily involved in community service and volunteer 10 hours a week to various service organizations.

Outside of teaching, tutoring and volunteering I love to read, shop, travel and spend time with my family. I have travelled to Mexico, South Africa, Dominican Republic and Mexico. These trips inspired me to learn Spanish which I am still studying to this day. I have plans to take an Alaskan cruise for Christmas next year and go to Argentina this summer. At my sister’s request, I have recently taken up running, and will complete my first 5K on Thanksgiving morning during the "Turkey Trot" in downtown Detroit. I also play tennis and enjoy cycling. I enjoy watching basketball, tennis, Law and Order and anything involving nature or mysteries on television. I am married to a wonderful man, Glen, who I met while in undergrad. I have an older brother and younger sister and I speak to my mother at least 3 times a day. I also enjoy fishing with my father. I enjoy food of all types, but seafood is my favorite.
